Sugar is an open invitation to a series of diseases. We all are influenced by fancy advertisements going on the television. It is a tempting feeling for us to try each and every product ad that we watch. But excessive consumption of sugar results in a hazardous situation.
Soda is another source of damage to your body especially, your teeth. You consume nearly 6 spoons of sugar in one can of soft drink.
Fizz Free February is a campaign against sugary sodas, which was first started by Southwark Council, London in 2018. The campaign encourages local residents to give up fizzy drinks for a month and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Hazards of excessive sugary sodas on our body
Bad for your teeth
Sugar act as a fuel for the bacteria in our mouth. These bacteria affect teeth leading to tooth decay and gum diseases. Enamel is the hardest part of bones, but fizzy acids in the soda can wear it out resulting in brittle and discolored teeth.
Sugar is the powerhouse of energy. Excessive sugar consumption and low physical activity result in storing fat in our body. This sugar grows in your abdomen, hips, and arm areas, which gradually leads to obesity. Obesity is the cause of many other diseases like diabetes, hypertension, stroke etc.
A 20-year study of around 40 thousand men found that those who consumed 1 sugary drink every day had a 20% higher risk of having a heart attack.
Sugary-beverages increase risk factors for heart disease, including high blood triglycerides, dense LDL particles.
High risk of cancer
Studies have found that there are a few substances in soft drinks which are cancer-causing agents. One of the major substances being Aspartame which is directly linked to causing leukemia (blood cancer), breast cancer and brain tumor.
Gout is a condition that consists of inflammation and pain at small joints. It generally occurs with high levels of uric acid in the blood which then becomes crystallized. A high amount of sugar and soda in the blood can lead to the potential risk of gout.
